Builders today have a great advantage over their ancestors.  New low-maintenance products such as "composite wood"  and similar, have tremendous life-spans on exterior trim, decking, handrails, soffits, doors, windows, and so on!  And consider the new "fibercement" siding products which look like wooden clapboards when installed but are fire-resistant and last a f.
